&lt;p&gt;I find this national 60th birthday ironic.  Israel arose as a state among other states, part of the family of nations and constituting normalization of existence within an historic homeland.  However, what other state has its decennial birthdays celebrated with such global attention?  There is a contradiction between normality and turning such events into special global occasions.  Israel should learn to enjoy its birthday without turning it into an international event.  That might be far more beneficial for the heavily strained national budget, where social services keep disappearing.&lt;/p&gt;
