Protect Your National Identity
Every time I go home to see my parents, I always seem to do something wrong with my US passport. For example, once I ran it through the wash just before we were to take a trip to nearby Istanbul.
It would have been one thing if I’d known where my Israeli papers were. Handing the border control officer a decidedly damp American ID, when he could tell that I held dual citizenship, is another. I barely made it on to my flight.
I wonder whether there would have been a problem if I’d had memorable sleeves for my passports like these. The eagle inscription is so in-your-face, it feels like it’s watching out for you.

Heh – If you have one of the new US passports with the RFID tag in it, you might not be ABLE to damage it in the wash. It looks like it would take precision guided munitions to dent this thing. The cover must be 1/8″ thick. Perhaps it’s made to supplement body armor….Might come in handy nowadays. I can see it now “tourist saved from blast by new improved US passport. Stock in government contractor “PASSPORTS R US” skyrockets.
But, like so many American made security items the reliance on high tech (installing a chip) may be it’s undoing…I wonder how little it will take to damage one of these chips…not that I have any desire to try…
